My story

The sun inched its way up the sky on a summer morning in the Western Australian state. Crickets creaked and birds chirped merrily. There was a beautiful girl named Jamie whose lustrous black hair cascaded down her shoulders. She was on her comfortable, soft bed, sleeping like any other average Year 8 girls would do.

“Wake up!” shouted her mother at the top of her lungs. Jamie made her bed and staggered to the toilet to get ready for school. She then went to the kitchen to have her breakfast of sausage and egg. After her breakfast, she skipped off to school.

In school, Jamie learned about Sun Smart. She took down notes on what the Sun Smart steps were. This was what the five Sun Smart steps were:

1. Slip on protective clothes.
2. Slop on a hat.
3. Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen.
4. Seek shade
5. Slide on sunglasses.

Then, the teachers told the whole class that they would be going to the museum and have a picnic at a park after that. The teacher also told them to practice the five Sun Smart steps.

The next day, Jamie and her class went to the museum. There were many dinosaur bones, Stone Age material and a huge, enormous time machine. Jamie could not take her eyes off the beautiful creation. Jamie went forward to feel the time machine and all of a sudden. . . .

BOOM! There was a long silence and then, there were birds chirping merrily and the sun that shone bright enough to blind her eyes. She saw many different statues ranging from cats to a human with the lion’s face. “Greece,” she thought.

From afar, she saw a twenty-year-old person who was working in one of the fields. His name was Harold. He was a farmer who had an old t-shirt and baggy shorts. He had many other friends who were also working in the fields. Then, he noticed some burns on his legs. He thought that it was a punishment from the gods of Greece.

Jamie heard this and started to walk towards him. “Where are you from?” asked Harold. “I am from Western Australia,” replied Jamie. “Do you know about sun smart?” asked Jamie. “No. What is it?” questioned Harold. After Jamie told Harold about sun smart and its five steps. She also gave him a large bottle of sunscreen. “Thanks!” he exclaimed merrily and he ran off to tell his friends about sun smart. “Beep!” rang her watch. Jamie was then transported to the museum and she joined her class to the dinosaur bones.
